Vhay, I am Savitribai Phule performed at Xavier Institute of Communications
Xavier Institute of Communications echoed with the message of equality and awareness on September 12 as the students gathered at McFarland hall for the play ‘Vhay, I am Savitribai Pule’. The one-act play was performed by Nandita Patkar, a talented actor in the Marathi film industry. The performance was graced by Sushma Deshpande, who is the writer and director of the play and also played the role in the initial years.
Once the stage was set with lights and sound, the students of Journalism and Film and Television courses took seats in anticipation of the play. The performance began with anchors warming up the audiences with introduction of the play and giving them a glimpse into the extraordinary story that was about to unfold in front of them. They introduced the actor with a round of applause and the play began. The captivating story and enthralling acting of Patkar left everyone gripped. The interactive nature of the play caught everyone’s attention making them laugh, upset and even shed a tear at the end. The performance can be summed up as an inspiring story of a revolutionary personality performed by a versatile actor with conviction.
The powerful performance received a minute long applause and standing ovation by the students. The though provoking play had put many questions in the minds of students which were answered by the director and actor in a QnA session that followed. The event ended with college authorities presenting the Nandita Patkar and Sushma Despande with a token of appreciation.
