OBITUARY - Fr. Anthony A. D'Souza SJ

Fr. Anthony A. D'Souza SJ ("the Leader"), former rector of St Xavier’s College, one-time director of XIMR and the second director of the Xavier Institute of Communications (1976-79), passed away peacefully this morning (Jan.28) in his sleep, in the Vinayalaya Infirmary, Andheri. He was 95 (b. 1926).

Tony played an important role in building up several institutions. He was one of the first directors of the Indian Social Institute, Delhi, and many years later, oversaw the re-location of the XIC to its present place on the college campus. It was he who planted the seeds which made XIC  into the famous professional institute it is today.
After his term at XIC, he took charge  of the Institute of Management (XIMR) at the college.

His nickname "the leader" came because of his many courses and writings on Christian leadership.  His optimism was inspiring, his enthusiasm was infectious and he always had a word of cheerful encouragement for everyone.  May God grant him eternal peace.
