Journalism & Media Convergence students visited the BMC office
28-July-2025
The BMC building itself was very unique. It was built in the 19th century and designed by F.W. Andrews. The structure has a mix of different styles and holds a lot of history. We first met with the Protocol Team. They told us about their work managing foreign guests, events, and exchange programs with 14 cities. Experts from different countries share ideas on infrastructure through this program.
We also saw the Disaster Management Unit. The head of the unit, Mr. Mahesh Narvekar, explained how BMC works to prevent and respond to disasters. We saw systems like robots, flood control methods, CCTVs, and weather tracking tools.
We also had the pleasure to meet the Municipal Commissioner, Dr. Bhushan Gagrani, who has been working for the last 35 years. He very graciously gave us his time and shared his experiences with us. He explained how the BMC being a conglomerate of a lot of departments holds multiple responsibilities and talked about the challenges they face on a daily basis, being the biggest municipal corporation in India.
We offer our sincere thanks to Dr. Gagrani, who inspite of his very busy schedule, took the time to speak with us.
This visit wouldn’t have been possible without our faculty Richa Pinto, and Mr. Tanaji Kamble, the PRO of BMC and the entire BMC team for this great learning experience. Thank you for this wonderful and very insightful visit.
