A Collaborative venture of Toonskool and XIC
The course begins with the general Orientation Week on June 30, 2008.
Specific classes in Digital Animation begin on July 7, and carry on
until the end of December 2010, altogether 18 months.
Course Outline

Section I (2+1 months)
Takes the student through Foundation Art, animation principles &
techniques. Fountain Art, colour theories, classical animation,
animation production process, digital fundamentals

Section II (6 months)
The course lays a solid foundation on the general understanding of 3D
software and develop a deep working knowledge on Maya. Teaches the
techniques of 3D modeling of objects & organic models, sets and props,
texturing, lighting, rigging, animation, dynamics, spl. fx and
rendering.

Section III (5 months)
Trains the student in any one of the important modules of 3D at an
advanced level. Takes the student through the advanced techniques of 3D
along with their relevant classical Principles. Student gets to
understand and develop some of the powerful skills practiced by the
industry.

Section IV (4 months)
Takes the student through the art of image / Video editing, compositing
and video special effects as required by the video/digital post
production industry. Post-production basics film, video production
processes, image editing, video fundamentals, input output formats,
blue/green matte shooting, BG and compositing, compositing essentials,
editing techniques.

Photography Workshop
10 hrs, 5 sessions
Aesthetic and technical aspects of photography. Cameras & Accessories.
Digital image processing. Assignment Practicals.

Claymation Workshop
10 hrs, 5 sessions
Basics of clay based Animation.

Basics of Video / Sound Editing
10 hrs, 5 sessions
Basics of video editing and digital sampling; Import of 3D animation
files as image sequences. Using transitions and filters to create movie
files. Understanding soung design. Import and laying of audio CD tracks
and ambient sound effects, sound mixing animation projects.

Eligibility:
Anyone who has completed Junior College (Standard 12 ) in Commercial
Art, Science, Mass Media, Commerce or Arts with some artistic ability
and a flair for visualization is eligible to apply. Students will
submit their art portfolio and take a drawing test, followed
by an interview.
Class Timings:
Five days a week, three hours a day.
Occasionally, weekends will be devoted to specialized workshops.
Students of this course will keep the timetable of holidays and events
as followed by the XIC. Classes are two hour sessions (of theory and
digital lab work) followed or preceded by an hour of supplementary study
(either of library study, or the group viewing of select animation
films).
The teaching schedule is batch wise (approx 10 students to a batch)

Projects:
Individual assignments and group projects. These will be given to the
student on a CD-ROM at the end of the course,
Software:
Image-Processing, 2D Animation, 3D Computer Graphics & Animation,
Non-Linear Video and Sound Editing, Compositing software packages.
Job Prospects:
Employment opportunities are as 3D animators and specialists (modeler
riggers etc), 3D artists
(clean-up artists, background artists), and 2D animation artists in TV
channels, post-production studios, and web and multimedia firms.
