Xavier Institute of Communications Host "43rd Annual Convocation"

The 43rd Annual Convocation for the Academic year 2012-13 of Xavier Institute of Communications was held on April 26, 2013 in the first quadrangle of St. Xavier’s College Campus at 6.00 p.m.
Fr. Lawrie Ferrao SJ, Director of XIC welcomed the gathered audience, which included students, their parents, friends, faculty, course heads and staff of XIC. The Chief Guest for the evening was Ms. Nandita Chalam, XIC Alumnus, 1981-82 Vice President & Senior Creative Director, and J. Walter Thompson. She has in her career been the recipient of Abbies, CAG Awards, Nairobi Ad Club Awards, Unilever Chairman’s award for Advertising & Marketing.
The Guest of Honor was Mr. Julian Hollick, Writer & Journalist from France. He has been a producer of many documentaries for National Public Radio and BBC Radio 4 on India. He has also written two books "Ganga” on the great Indian River and "Apna Street” on Mumbai city slums. He conducts an annual workshop at XIC and is currently doing his PhD on "Ganga Jal” at Leeds University.
The Comperes for the evening were Abel Joy & Nicolette Pinto from AM Course, Guruprasad Jadhav & Anish Bendre from MCM Course, Vinit Dominic & Vijayanthi Kari from PR Course and Shahid Judge & Priya Adivarekar from JR Course. The scripts were written by the students themselves, under the tutelage of XIC Staff, Romeo Monterio.
The ‘Best Student of the Year’ which was a tie, went to Ms. Sitara Menon of AM Course and Ms. Nitya Naresh of FT Course. Sitara Menon was presented the award by the Guest of Honor, Mr. Julian Hollick.
Dr. Jehangir B. Mistry, Board Member and Acting Dean of XIC highlighted the reviews of the Academic year 2012-13, which was followed by screening of "The Year That Was”.
Short clippings of each course events and documentaries were screened amidst loud cheers from the students of the respective courses.
Fr. Lourduraj SJ, Director XIC Ranchi, presented Nitya Naresh of FT Course with the ‘Best Student Of the Year’ award.
The Convocation Ceremony ended by Dr. Jehangir B. Mistry giving the vote of thanks followed by singing of the XIC Anthem.
