ADMA Social Outreach Programme
22-September-2014
18thof September 2014, the students of ADMA, XIC along with their Course Heads and
Paresh Bhai is a date for the 2014-15 batch to remember – all left for Kolkhe
village, Raigarh district for the annual Social Outreach Programme.
Preparation had
been on since mid-August with coordination in the safe & able hands of
Rahul Bagchi. 60 of us divided into two groups henceforth tagged as Kriti’s or
Varuni’s, our team leaders.
Departure at
7.30am!! Groggily we amble along, the drizzle reflecting our mood. Later into
the morning, sunny side up, the sun came out and so did Yash’s instrument; we sang,
played ‘antakshari’. Within few hours we had reached Bethany Convent, the place
which would home us for 3 days and help discover so much…and not just us!
Sr. Violet
welcomed us and she alongside her team made our stay comfortable. Time felt too
little and we probably had more fun than the kids there in the village schools
we visited. We had Neville and Sammanay acted as we played along with them. Rest
of us made games spot on, and played alongside. Maclina and Ashwin came to the
rescue where we were getting stuck due to our linguistic limitations. Ravi Raj and
Ankita danced along with them, Diya and Shreya sang along with them while
Piyush had them rapt with awe as he told his stories rather dramatically. We
painted our faces, we painted their faces and although it rained later, the
weather did not wet our Back that spirits. evening, Anmol along with Rahul had
organised a game. Again we found ourselves divided into small group. Being a sport that Anu Maam, Roy Sir and
Paresh Bhai are, they joined us. Some won and some lost; but it was great fun.
Second day saw the
one of the two groups going to a village named Waga-chi-wadi(the thakur tribe),
while the other group shared their day with Kathkari tribe. Nothing could
possibly prepare us for what awaited us. They say that the journey is more
important than the destination and that’s what exactly it was. Kriti &
Rahul had their cameras out even before the word go. Taking advantage of
brilliant actors and story tellers that we have in our class we started with a play.
Joining in for the tribal dance we were thrilled and ravishing and we were
served the most delicious ‘ghar-ka-khana’. They grew their own vegetables, so
delicious and healthy. Some of us got their hands dirty while creating a piece
of art on the wall, while all pitched in with their bits. The long but amazing
day was followed by bonfire that evening. Shilpi and Swati organising an ice
breaking session, and some secrets were revealed!!
Exhausted and
brimming with new discovery of our own selves we returned back to our own
civilised world but thankfully Kriti, Javed and Rahul Chandra had all captured wonders
on their cameras.
