XIC Orientation for Academic Year 2014-15

XIC’s 45th Academic year 2014-15 began with Orientation for students on July 1st & 2nd ,2014 at the St. Xavier’s College Hall. The Orientation was also attended by parents and guardians of our students. This year the theme is "Women in Media- Communicating Transformation”.
Day One of the Orientation began with a prayer and welcome address by Fr. Lawrence Ferrao SJ, Director-XIC, Dr. Jehangir. B. Mistry, Dean & Board Member elaborated on some student guidelines and academic regulations.
The key note speaker for the Orientation was Ms. Sathya Saran, renowned journalist, ex-editor of Femina and currently Executive Director, Encyclomedia. In her speech she highlighted the changing role of women in media and how they can make a difference. She stressed on this by sharing her very own personal experiences as a journalist.
Fr. Errol Fernandes SJ, Vice Principal, Commerce Section, St. Xavier’s College, gave a short presentation and overview of ‘Jesuit Ethos’, a session highly appreciated by all. Then, each Course Head introduced themselves. The students gathered in their respective classroom for first time for further briefing.
Day Two had interesting ‘Classroom Survival’ sessions conducted by Fr. Terence Quadros SJ, Student Counselor, St. Xavier’s College. And special ice breaking session were introduced by Fr. Gordon Daniells SJ, Head Corporate Extension Services, XIC.
This was followed by a talk "Women and Media” by Ms. Kalpana Sharma, eminent Journalist. (Dr) Fr. Anthony Dias SJ, Director-Xavier Institute of Social Research & Board Member XIC moderated the same. Later in the evening the students had special interactive sessions with some of our XIC Alumni who shared their own expertise and experiences.
