"I am always delighted to address young minds,” said Mr. Dattatray Padsalgikar, the current Mumbai Police Commissioner, in an interaction with students of Communication for Development and Mass Communication Marathi at XIC.

Mr. Padsalgikar, who’s popularly known as ‘Datta’ among his colleagues, is a senior IPS officer who served with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) before taking up his current post. Though the association between media and the police formed a major part of the discussion, certain social issues and the problems faced by the police, were also raised.

Mr Padsalgikar gave a humble account of his journey as an officer and made it a point to keep the interaction participatory, encouraging questions from the audience.

"I believe women are in no way physically or mentally weaker than the men. In fact they are more capable at their jobs,” said Mr Padsalgikar, when asked about women’s participation and role in the Police services by Ashna Batra, a student of Communication for Development.

He emphasized on the fact that there should be an understanding between both the police and the media for smooth functioning in civic life.

The visit of the Mumbai Police Commissioner to XIC was organised by the MCM Course Head Ramdas Pandewad. XIC Director Fr Lawrie presided over the function, with Dean Dr Jehangir Mistry in attendance. Jasmine Bhatia proposed a vote of thanks at the end of this inspirational interaction.
