XIC and GIZ have partnered to include and integrate Coastal and Marine Protected Area (CMPA) Management in the media education curriculum. Marine species depend on a healthy marine environment, where biodiversity can improve. Due to the constant degradation of the environment by human intervention, XIC and GIZ have together focussed on pilot testing CMPA.
Dr. Ms. Neeraj Khera, Senior Advisor Biodiversity Programme (CMPA) and Human Capacity Development (HCD) along with Mr. Luke Mendes (XIC Faculty, Writer and Film maker) spearheaded this project. Mr. Luke Mendes underwent training under GIZ HCD after which this programme was implemented.  Mr. Luke Mendes works with the indigenous people and believes they along with scientists are front line warriors of the environment.
This programme was pilot tested at XIC in the Post-graduate Communication for Development (C4D) Course pioneered by UNICEF. The learning from the pilot test allowed us to implement and integrate it in the main Course.
XIC can now mentor institutes in implementing the CMPA Course Modules. The CMPA course modules are created to make education fun using innovative teaching methods. Students felt empowered with scientific knowledge and media skills holistically.
With the success of this programme in XIC, we are privileged to extend this CMPA Programme to St. Xavier’s College, BMM Dept., St. Paul’s Institute of Communication Education (SPICE) and Gujarat University.

The CMPA project of the Indo-German Biodiversity Programme, being implemented by GIZ has partnered with XIC to pilot test the curriculum on "Communicating Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Conservation and Management Through Media". Dr. Neeraj Khera, Senior Advisor at GIZ and incharge for the Capacity Development portfolio made a presentation on the successful pilot testing of the curriculum with the students of C$D at XIC during Dec 2014- May 2015, and expressed the willingness of GIZ to continue this partnership on the coming academic year as well.
