The Cardinal Gracias Media Resource Centre at XIC

Ever wanted to know the secret of creative writing, news gathering or
reporting ? strategic marketing or media trends?
How to keep abreast of communications technologies?
The newly constructed Cardinal Gracias Media Resource Centre (CGMRC)
of the Xavier Institute of Communications (XIC)
is the place to come to – it has something for everyone in the media!

As the name implies, the Media Resource Centre (MRC) is a reservoir of resources for referencing and storing of information in the media.

It is a specialized library on media and communication.

It has been in demand for reference and consultation by students as well as several media professionals in the city.

At the moment, the MRC has over 7000 books, periodicals, and clippings besides audio-visual and now electronic media (over a thousand audio and video cassettes, CDs).

The centre has been named Cardinal Gracias Media Resource Centre after the eminent archbishop who led the Church in Mumbai in the 50s – 70s, and who was also a distinguished orator. It is spacious, fully air conditioned, and located on the ground floor of the XIC. This adds to accessibility to our information resources for a wider clientele, not only to XIC students, but also for the BMM (Bachelor of Mass Media) degree students of the college, media professionals and institutions. Both researchers as well as browsers of print and electronic material on the mass media, are welcome here.

Plans are on for major developments at the CGMRC, especially the computerization of the library. “The initial phase of the database creation is complete. Also keeping abreast with current trends in technology, the transition from VHS to DVDs and VCDs will soon be implemented,” says Madhavi Ganpule, Librarian, of CGMRC.
