44th Annual Convocation

The 44th Annual Convocation for the Academic year 2013-14 of Xavier Institute of Communications was held on April 25, 2014 in the quadrangle of St. Xavier’s College Campus at 6.00 p.m.
Fr. Lawrence Ferrao SJ, Director of XIC welcomed the audience, which included students, parents, friends, faculty, course heads and staff of XIC. The Chief Guest for the evening was Mr. Gyan Correa, XIC Alumnus, Writer & Director of the film, "The Good Road", India's entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards, Our Guest of honour for the evening was Mr. Rahul da Cunha, XIC Alumnus, Creative Head, DaCunha Communications, Playwright & Artistic Director, Rage Theatre Company.
The comperes (by rotation) for the event were Sheldon D’souza and Shivani Khare from Advertising & Marketing Batch,Prathamesh More and Prachi Bhosle from the Mass Communication Marathi Course, Chayya Tiwari and Rahul Joshi from the Public Relation & Corporate Communication Course, Riyah Ghuman and Prem Parija from the Film & TV Course,Avinash Lohana and Shonita Joshi from the Journalism & Mass Communication Course, The scripts were written by the students themselves, under the tutelage of XIC Staff, Romeo Monteiro.
The ‘Best Student of the Year’ was a tie. The awardees were, Shonita Joshi of the Journalism and Mass Communication Course, and Mainak Mondal of the Public Relations & Corporate Communication Course. This year a new Award was introduced - The Ignatian Award, to exemplify good Academic, Social and Spiritual values as per the Jesuit ‘MAGIS’ tradition. This was a tie too ! The awardees were Bhani Rachel Bali and Ashvin Kumar Mishra from the Communication for Development Course at XIC.
Ranjana Kacker Memorial Awards were presented by her daughter Ms. Ruchi Bahree. "Two Outstanding Research Papers in Journalism for the year 2012-2013” to Satya Kandala and Amruta Lakhe. The Award for Best Broadcast TV News Production was given to "Mumbai Spot Light." The team members were Ishita Guha, Vaidehi Mirashi, Surabhi Nijhawan, Natasha Patidar, Pooja Paliwal, Taruka Srivastav, Somyajyoti Suresh and Shiamak Unwalla. The Award for Best Video Documentary Production was given to "Story Sellers" to Team members - Srishti Dixit, B.H. Harsh, Shonita Joshi, Nishtha Juneja, Prerana Kapur, Mrinalini Khattar, Adele Macdonald, Neha Shende. The Best Corporate Video Production Award, went to "UL Group of Companies" The team members were Srijonee Bhattacharjee, Mrinal Gujare, Kanika Kumria, Snigdha Kuttikat, Mahesh Yadav
There was a farewell presentation for two of our faculty members, Asha Sandilya, Course Head, Journalism and Mass Communication and Margaret da Costa, Course Head, Advertising & Marketing Communications. The presentation with screening was done by XIC Staff members Ida Aranha and A.E.Radha.
Dr. Jehangir B. Mistry, Board Member and Dean of XIC highlighted XIC achievements in the review of the Academic year 2013-14, This was followed by the screening of "The Year That Was”.
Short clippings of events and documentaries were screened amidst loud cheers from the students of the respective courses.
The Convocation Ceremony ended by Sandra Rana, giving the vote of thanks. This was followed by singing of the XIC Anthem.

2nd BEST All Round Student in Public Relations & Corporate Communication to Rishiraj Barik, PR 2014.
Sanskriti Award for Best Web Project (PR) to Rebecca D'Souza, PR 2014.
XIC Award for the Best Student in Mass Communicaton Marathi to Prathamesh More, MCM 2014.
Select Direct Marketing Award for the Best Students in Advertising & Marketing Communication to Khushal Palicha, AM 2014.
S.S. Oberoi Award for the Best Student in Film, TV & Digital Video Production to Dipankar Gupta, FTV 2014.
Award for the Best Audiovisual Social Documentary In memory of Late Mr. Hrishikesh Mukherjee - "Sparsh”, to the team members (XIC FTV 2014), Prem Parija, Dipankar Gupta, Vineeth Kumar, Rohini Devarajan, Kalyani Warner, Yoshita Bhaskar, Rootam Goswami.
Award for the Best Audiovisual Social Documentary - "Harmu River”, to the team members (XIC Ranchi 2014) Satish Kumar Singh & Neha Priya Xalxo.
Award for the Best Ad Film sponsored by Reliance Power for "Public Service Advertising”, to the team members (ADMA 2014),Neil John Athayde, Ribhujit Savio Banerjee, Manoshi Satyaranjan Roy, Sheldon D'Souza, Ekta Aggarwal, Ridhi Aggarwal, Saumya Aggarwal, Tanvi Ashish Rangnekar, Neha Naresh Chawla, Neha Shefali, Divya Daji.
